 Mold On The A/C Coils

Locate the A/C coils which should be by the filter you change every month.  If you have a ceiling filter grill, the odds of your coils being there is nil. You will have to get a licensed A/C Contractor to inspect the coils for you. There are some individuals that recommend you buy one of their Mold Test Kits and put it in the A/C Grill where the air comes into your room. This is a complete waste of time and money. There is always mold and algae in your A/C Unit because there is water there. Testing the air there is only going to make them money and take it from you. If you want to test the air, have a licensed Indoor Air Quality Professional come in a do it right. They will sample the air and tell you if it is high compared to outside.

We do not recommend using the mold testing kits that you find in the stores. These will not properly test your problem areas with accuracy. There is mold everywhere in the air. The second you open up the test kit, it is contaminated with the air around you. There is no way to control the test to get an accurate test. I can take a test kit outside and get lots of growth there also. You can go to your neighbors home and get lots of mold growth in their home also. From our experience, do not waste your money on the store bought test kits. You are better off with a professional doing the testing for the investigation. They are experienced and know what to look for. Would you diagnose yourself for cancer or go to a Doctor to have a test done. Get my point about this. This is a big difference between a laboratory analysis and a home test kit. The results can be dramatic in regards to your health. Do not trust your health to a Do-It-Yourself Test Kit, have a Professional do it for you.

If you are concerned about cost, please read the read on. We have a client who did their own remediation and testing and spent close to $15,000 in their own money. Two years later the problem started again. During our investigation, it was discovered that the original mold was hidden in a few drywall cavities that were never opened up. During an investigation, it is important to take air samples from these hidden cavities with special equipment. The original area had to be partially removed again, the family had to go thru the same inconvenience all over again. Think twice about doing your own mold testing.
